Souls of the dead sometimes decide to stay back instead of walking the path of light, either to complete something unfinished or to remain close to their loved ones. By doing so, they become stuck in between. They are displaced and are neither able to cross the path of light nor able to stay within the world of the living.  

They are present among us but their absence is still felt by us.
