AGAIN emerges as a reflection of hybridisation in Southeast Asian cultures. The concept of hybridity connects our past to the present. It melds tradition with modernity. In today’s world, culture transcends borders by exchanging visual imagery and goods, creating global interconnection and opportunities for hybridity. This publication questions the uniqueness of hybridity: Has it happened before, and will it happen again?

The fashion imagery and introspective editorials in AGAIN revolve around the themes of MYTHS & RITUALS, BELIEFS & ECONOMICS OF CARE, and ACTIVISM & RESISTANCE. The Year 2 students from both the BA (Hons) Fashion Media and Industries and Fashion Design and Textiles programmes took on this brief, presenting these interconnections through the Southeast Asian lens.

Beyond eyewear and textile displays, our spreads pay homage to the intricate craftsmanship and centuries-old traditions defining Southeast Asian cultures. As you flip through this publication, you will witness a celebration of current culture, each piece telling a story of cultural resilience and creativity.

This publication is the product of the cohort’s semester-long journey exploring the evolving role of fashion in Southeast Asia, where traditions blend seamlessly with modern trends, creating a unique and dynamic fashion identity. Spanning 15 weeks, the
collaborative effort of the students from the BA (Hons) Fashion Media and Industries programme captures the essence of present passion, drive and creativity.

Like culture, it reflects our spirit in the current moment. We hope it leaves a lasting memory and brings something meaningful to you—whether a new learning opportunity, an appreciation of your heritage, or simply a visually exhilarating experience.
