We fell in love. Didn’t mean to make you sad. But, this is my life so please move. It is them that I love.

Overcoming the odds and rising above the outcry, their love shone through. This is their story of love, and of a hope that love will always lead the way.

As far as modern love stories write themselves, the bond between Sherrin Shah and Ang Yixi has captured the hearts and minds of many that follow their journey on their Tik Tok accounts.

Cute moments reminding us of young love,

this is their story through their voice.

My favourite memory of our journey so far is

Sherrin:
…the first time he introduced me to his extended family as his girlfriend during Chinese New year.
He actually had yet to ask me
to be his girlfriend officially but invited me for
CNY and that made me really confused at first!
Yixi:
…the moment when I asked her to be my girlfriend.
It was really a romantic moment where we sat at Clarke Quay in front of the river and I confessed my love for her.

2)  How did my parents react to the news of our relationship?

Sherrin:
I grew up with my grandma so she knows my
“taste in men” so she wasn’t very surprised. She was actually quite happy for me. As for my dad, he's a bit more traditional, so he was surprised by the fact that I was dating a Chinese boy. Regardless my dad was respectful of my choice.
Yixi:
I have actually been in an interracial relationship before so this relationship wasn’t news to my parents. However, my mom was quite worried because it was the cultural differences that ended the last one.

3) Sketch a quick drawing of what the other means to me.

4) When I think of the other, the song in my mind is… why?

Sherrin:
My kind of Woman by Mac Demarco. There is a lyric

“As long as you’re next to me, just the two of us”
Yixi:
I love you 3000 by Stephanie Poetri
It's a very romantic song and I have actually sang it to her before.

5) If I could describe our relationship in one word, would it be?

Sherrin:
Devoted
Yixi:
Unforgettable

6) A role model you look up to?

Sherrin:
My boyfriend.
He is a very optimistic and logical person
while I am very pessimistic.
I admire how he views things and solves problems.
Yixi:
My mom. She is an independent woman that has been through a lot. She always taught me how to be responsible and be a man of my words, especially towards the people I love.

7) The one thing we are tired of hearing about interracial relationship. Why?

While we can understand the concerns and issues that people may have due to the cultural differences between us, what we are tired of hearing are the casual racist remarks people make to us. Some things like ‘fishball noodles and curry’ are really unnecessary.

8) Our initial view points on interracial relationship were… Currently?

Both of us were open to getting into an interracial relationship. Our viewpoint hasn’t changed much. We feel that each and every person has their right to find love and it should not be restricted to their own race or religion. As long as you feel comfortable with certain boundaries made and the cultural differences (if any), then there is literally nothing stopping you from going into an interracial relationship.

9) The future for us is…

We hope to create more interesting and casual content on TikTok for our fans. At the same time, we are looking into opportunities where we can educate the public and be advocates on social issues such as racism and certain topics revolving around interracial relationships. We are extremely grateful for TikTok and our fans on the platform that are supportive of what we do and we hope to live up to their expectations and give back to society in the future.

10) The luxury of love to us is?

We think the luxury of love is to have someone there for you constantly supporting and encouraging you to do better. People often overlook the fact that there can be someone to talk to no matter what happens and to act as a motivation for you and your significant other to work towards a better future together.
